‘What About My Calcium’ Book Released

The Calcium Myth Buster by Dr Rupa Shah was launched at One Earth Festival 2018 on 2 December, and offers practical answers to most-asked questions amidst a pandemic of lifestyle diseases.

Dr Rupa Shah, MBBS, Author, Founder of circleOhealth, launched her book ‘What About My Calcium’ is the answer to questions often posed to medics and is an effort to bust major misconceptions about calcium from a dairy-free lifestyle. The book is perhaps the first of its kind complete guide to plant-based calcium to boost bone health.

The project has been edited and developed by Vegan Content Developer & Editor Nandita Kapadia and her team lead Mahesh Jadhav who is an Art Director associated with about 20 years’ experience in a leading media house.

The Book

Most of us have the belief that by transitioning to a plant-based diet or a vegan diet, we miss out of essentials like calcium, B12 and D3 and others. But this is not the case. The book throws light on many common local ingredients that we use for our daily cooking and are actually rich sources of calcium.

What About My Calcium? is a collaborative project, bringing renowned experts from various fields–across India and overseas-to the table to share exclusive tips and insights about boosting fitness and bone health. The book features exclusive Interviews & 7-Day Plans by Kajal Bhatia, Nutritionist and Dr Paawan Wadhwan, MD, to choose better foods to boost bone health. Dr Tushar Mehta, Family & Emergency Physician, Canada has also consulted on this project. Moreover, COH has included exclusive insights by Dr John McDougall, Global Bestselling Author, Physician and Nutrition Expert.

Says Dr Rupa Shah, Founder COH, “Because of our cultural and religious association with the use of dairy in our daily food habits, it is a challenge for many to give up dairy products. Thus, I decided to write this book to clear up the misconceptions about calcium and create awareness that plants are super resources of calcium. Also, this book is an attempt to answer the most commonly asked questions.”

The paperback book has 104 pages and is priced at Rs 500.
