The Big Leap: Blueprint For Personal & Family Wellness

The Big Leap seminar held on 29 February 2020, was a blueprint for personal and family wellness. The comprehensive 4-hr session presented experts from the vegan fraternity to guide participants towards living a healthful life.

Encouraging a healthful diet promotes the prevention and reversal of chronic diseases, such as CVD, diabetes, certain cancers and obesity. The Big Leap event was about understanding the bigger picture–that your food choices can not only heal you, but can also heal the planet and protect the environment. So take the big leap to better health and start walking towards doing your individual bit to protect the planet as well.

The key-note speaker was Dr Tushar Mehta, Family & Emergency Physician, Toronto, who talked about ‘The Power of Plants for Nutrition, Compassion and Planetary Sustainability’. The second speaker was Dr Rupa Shah, MBBS, Author & Founder, circleOhealth & Kitchen Doctor. She spoke about ‘30 Mistakes we make on Weight-Loss Programmes’. The Big Leap Seminar was designed to create more awareness about the power of whole foods as well. The talk also featured a healthy food-demo by Jinal Rathod.

Programme Package
Dr Tushar presented his talk in a 2-part session. The first was titled ‘Vegan Diet and Health: Optimizing Nutrition and Abs Busting The Myth’. The second part was, ‘The Earth Is On Fire: Animal Agriculture And The Global Ecological Impact.’ Dr Rupa Shah threw light on how a strategic, holistic, lifestyle approach to combating lifestyle diseases and weight issues.

Each dynamic and engaging session was supported by a video presentation covering the latest research on the cause, prevention, and solution of the respective concerns. The seminar featured discussions on a full range of holistic lifestyle changes. The medical experts showed ways to attain soundness of the body, learn how to live longer, better, and happier and heal the environment. Participants learnt ways to improve their lifestyle and sense of wellbeing. They also learnt the benefits of being healthy and reducing their pain levels. All talks were presented by specialists themselves.

Dr Rupa Shah emphasised, “Of the ten leading causes of death in India, at least seven are directly related to diet choices” These conditions include heart disease, cancer, lung disease, cerebrovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and kidney disease.

Take-Aways For Participants
The seminar helped participants understand the importance of complete lifestyle transformation through comprehensive assessment tools, and support in all life areas. The participants enjoyed a delicious plant-based meal and a gift bag.
